SMILE Eye Surgery Procedure
1) Surgical Method:
- Compared to traditional LASIK surgery, this technique utilizes a much smaller corneal micro-incision of about 2mm, which is about 1/10 the size of the cuts used in traditional methods, enabling safe vision correction without the need to remove the corneal epithelium or create a corneal flap.
2) Advantages:
- Pain-free with rapid vision recovery
- Low possibility of corneal haze or regression
- Resilience against external impacts, suitable for patients with thin corneas or high myopia
- High-quality vision results through precise axis analysis using AcuTarget
3) Surgical Equipment: VisuMax
4) Surgical Duration: 10 to 15 minutes
5) Anesthesia Method: Topical anesthesia with eye drops
6) Post-Visit Treatment:
- Follow-up visits are scheduled for the day after surgery, one week later, four weeks later, and three months later.
- (After four weeks, only vision and eye pressure checks are needed, which can be done by a local ophthalmologist after returning home.)
7) Recovery Period:
- One day; light daily activities such as face-washing and showering are possible from the next day, with normal activities including exercise resuming after a week.
8) Post-Surgical Care:
- Eye drops are used as needed from two weeks to one month post-surgery.
9) Surgical Effect: Vision correction (myopia, astigmatism, hyperopia)
10) Candidates:
- Individuals concerned about complications such as dry eyes or keratoconus
- Those who desire painless and quick recovery
- Individuals who want protection from external impacts and irritation
- Those concerned about corneal haze or degeneration
- Individuals who prefer to avoid the discomfort of daily wear of protective eyewear or sunglasses
- Those who want to minimize the side effects of increased eye pressure from steroid use
11) Precautions:
- Do not drive on the day of surgery; go straight home, rest with your eyes closed, and apply artificial tears frequently to avoid dryness.
- Avoid rubbing your eyes on the day of surgery and refrain from excessive movement of the eyeballs while your eyes are closed.
- Take breaks during activities that may cause dry eyes (like using computers, reading) after surgery.
- From the day after surgery, light face washing is possible; from the third day post-surgery, washing your hair is allowed but be careful to avoid getting water or soap suds in your eyes.
- A week after surgery, activities such as wearing makeup, jogging, gym workouts, and swimming are allowed.
