Gukbap's guk means soup while bap means rice. Put together, it literally means soup rice. In Korea, any hot or boiling soup that can have rice added to it is generally referred to as gukbap.

Recipe

1. Make soup base with dried anchovies, kelp, dried shrimp, diced Korean pepper and shiitake mushrooms.

2. Season the beef with salt and pepper. You can use sirloin or tenderloin.

3. Pan fry the meat. Put a little bit of the soup base and oyster sauce into the meat.

4. Scoop the cooked rice into the bowl. Over the rice, put the cooked meat, a dab of wasabi, chopped green onions, shiitae mushrooms from the soup and seaweed flakes.
