All About Eunpyeong Hanok Village | Cafe Recommendations Included

There are great hanok villages that are situated in the city of Seoul like Bukchon Hanok Village and Namsangol Hanok Village, but this hidden gem is a new hanok village not yet well-known to tourists. Built as a residential area, Eunpyeong Hanok Village is a bit different from the other hanok villages all filled with shops and patrons. There are still things you can do here like cafe hopping, grabbing brunch, stopping by the Jingwansa Temple, and more!

How to Get There

The transportation to the hanok village is not the easiest, the closest subway stations being Gupabal Station and Yeonsinnae Station, and you'll have to transfer to a bus at the subway stations.

Public Transportation: Ride the subway to wherever you are to Yeonsinnae Station Line 3. From Yeonsinnae Station Exit 3, walk straight (for about 15-20 seconds) and you'll see a bus stop on your right. Get on bus 7211 or bus 701. After 10 stops, get off at Hanago, Samcheonsa, Jingwansa.

Taxi: From Yeonsinnae Station exit 5, it will just basically be a straight ride up for about 8 minutes. Expect to pay around 7,000 KRW (*Taxi fares may vary depending on the time of travel).

Our Visit

Unlike Bukchon Hanok Village and Namsangol Hanok Village which are located in the middle of busy city scenes, Eunpyeong Hanok Village neighbors Bukhansan (Bukhan Mountains), giving it a unique picturesque vibe and a sense of openness.

Do keep in mind that most of the hanoks were built for residential purposes. Remember to respect the residents' environment by keeping your voice down and refrain from littering!

You'll see lots of cafes in the village, see which one you're most keen on trying out. Each cafe has a different angle and view of the village and the mountains as well as the interior, but you'll be happy with any you choose to go with.

Cafe Recommendations

Long Bread Cafe (롱브레드카페)

Hours: 10:00-21:00

Initially, our plan was to go to the famous 1 In 1 Jan, but because the lineup was so long, we decided to give Long Bread Cafe a try. Overall, we were very satisfied with the service, the aesthetics of the food, and the stunning views outside the window.

Egg Benedict (13,500 KRW): The egg was cooked perfectly (with a satisfying popping of yolk), well-paired with smooth hollandaise sauce and bread that was slightly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Shrimp Rosé Pasta: Pasta cooked in a creamy rosé sauce with shrimp, finished with fish roe on top. The sauce was tasty and rich, complementing the seafood and the spaghetti noodle well.

Situated at the tallest point of the hanok village, 1 In 1 Jan not only serves great food and drinks but also boasts amazing views overlooking the village and the mountains beyond. Expect to pay around 5,000-8,500KRW per drink.

The 5th floor is the most popular viewpoint of the cafe, with small sitting tables and cushions neatly aligned throughout. From the 5th floor, also walk towards the byulchae, another small space with tables and chairs connected by outdoor trails.

The 4th floor is a sister restaurant named 1 In 1 Sang, meaning one person one table. If you're feeling hungry, it's a great place to get a taste of pasta and steak inside a hanok! The prices are a bit steep for Korea, with main dishes starting at 22,000KRW.

Starbucks THE Bukhansan (스타벅스 더북한산)

Starbucks THE Bukhansan, is located at the base of Bukhansan Mountain, and is approx. a 20 minute-walk (5 minute bus ride) from Eunpyeong Hanok Village! This branch is located away from the bustling city center so if you're looking to spend the day in the serene nature of outer Seoul, this place is for you!

Starbucks THE Bukhansan offers a unique experience for busy modern urbanites in Seoul to enjoy a cup of coffee and commune with nature while appreciating the magnificent view of Bukhansan mountain. Spanning about 300 square meters across the first and second floors and rooftop, the branch boasts 253 seats to provide a comfortable space for customers to enjoy their coffee.

There is also a forest towards the Jingwan Temple that is worth visiting. The area is not packed with tourists so I recommend Eunpyeong Hanok Village to those who want to take a break outside of the busy city scenes and have some quiet time off with loved ones surrounded by stunning hanoks.
