Our Visit
Today, I visited the Korean restaurant 'Insadodam' located in Insadong.
As soon as I stepped inside the store, I was greeted by an interior with a Hanok style full of traditional Korean charm.
Thanks to the cozy and comfortable atmosphere, I felt at ease, and since there are group seats available, it seemed like a great place for gatherings, too.
The bathroom is also inside, so I could feel the thoughtful convenience!
The menu at ‘Insadodam’ is also available in various foreign languages, so foreign guests can order comfortably.
The editor tried ordering a variety of dishes such as Ttukbaegi Pork Ribs Stew, Minari Pancake, Bibimbap, Steamed Tofu with Vegetables, Beef Bulgogi, and Stir-fried Octopus.
As soon as we finished ordering, cold water with ice and appetizing side dishes were served.
Just looking at the neatly served side dishes made me feel as if I were visiting my grandmother's house.
‘Insadodam’ offers a wide variety of dishes that pair perfectly with makgeolli, just as you’d expect from a traditional Korean restaurant.
The editor tried ordering the famous alley makgeolli that was even featured on TV, and it came served in a jar shaped like an urn
I was able to fully experience the atmosphere of Korean tradition.
Finally, the first dish, tofu vegetable stew, has arrived. It's a menu that even vegans can enjoy with peace of mind.
Enoki mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, kabocha squash, mung bean sprouts, bok choy, napa cabbage, and tofu came together for a mild and savory flavor that was excellent.
There is also beef and vegetable jjim with meat together, so it would be nice to choose according to your preference!
Dipping the vegetables and tofu deeply into the soy sauce and seasoned sauce that came with it, the blend of mild and savory flavors made my mouth happy.
The seasoning sauce has a savory flavor that makes you want to eat more. If you eat the soft tofu together with fresh vegetables, you can enjoy a mouthful of mild and healthy taste.
Next, the beef bulgogi was served, and it was overwhelming from the start with its generous amount of mushrooms, glass noodles, rice cakes, and peppers in a large hot pot.
The sweet soy sauce-based sauce is well absorbed, making the meat tender and savory, and it's not spicy at all, so it's a dish that people of all ages can enjoy.
If you take some bulgogi onto your small plate and eat it with rice and sauce, it was truly irresistible.
This time, I'll introduce stir-fried octopus.
Stir-fried octopus is one of the most popular spicy seafood dishes in Korea,
This dish is made by stir-frying finely chopped octopus in a spicy and sweet gochujang sauce, featuring a chewy texture and rich seasoning flavor.
The stir-fried octopus at 'Insa Dodam' features chewy octopus perfectly seasoned with a special sauce, and from the very first bite, the spicy and savory flavors fill your mouth!
In particular, the charcoal-grilled flavor added to the seasoning makes the taste even richer, and the fragrant perilla leaf on top adds its unique aroma.
You can taste a slightly sweet flavor within the spiciness, making it a clean and enjoyable dish that's not too overwhelming.
I also ordered some extra somyeon noodles to mix with the stir-fried octopus and try eating it that way.
If you mix the noodles well with the seasoning for the stir-fried octopus and eat them together with the octopus, the seasoning fills your mouth and the chewy octopus and springy noodles create a perfect harmony.
The seasoning wasn't too strong, so when I ate it with somyeon noodles, it tasted much smoother and richer.
This time, I added a bowl of rice and mixed it with the stir-fried octopus sauce.
The spicy seasoning seeps into each grain of rice, and when enjoyed with the chewy texture of octopus, it creates a truly hearty and satisfying meal.
The next dish is minari jeon! Minari jeon is served with onion pickles that you can enjoy together.
Can you feel the crispiness just by looking at it?
I cut the minari pancake into bite-sized pieces using the tongs and scissors that came with it.
The outside is crispy and the inside is moist; when I put a piece of onion pickles on top of the pan-fried water parsley pancake and ate it, the crunchy texture and refreshing taste made the fragrant flavor of the water parsley stand out even more.
This time, it's the turn for Insadodam's signature dish, bibimbap!
A variety of herbs and vegetables, plus soup and spicy stir-fried pork, were all served generously at the table.
You can choose to eat bibimbap with either soy sauce or gochujang sauce according to your preference.
To properly eat bibimbap, I transferred some of the vegetables that came with it onto the rice.
Doesn't it look really pretty with all the different vegetables on top? This is traditional Korean food!
The editor wanted to try both soy sauce and gochujang, so they first added a little soy sauce and tasted it.
First, when I poured soy sauce over it, the natural flavor of the vegetables came alive, making it light and savory.
Especially, since it's not spicy, I think even young children can eat it well!
This time, to eat with gochujang, I added all the leftover vegetables and mixed them with gochujang.
The gochujang used in bibimbap was homemade and aged with king oyster mushrooms, giving it an incredible umami flavor!
It was a completely different taste from the bibimbap I usually eat!
Mixing in a bit of the spicy stir-fried pork that came with the bibimbap and eating it together, the combination of juicy, flavorful meat and crunchy vegetables created a fantastic harmony of sweet and spicy flavors.
It was a bowl that truly captured the flavors of Korean tradition!
The last menu item is Ttukbaegi Pork Galbi-jjim!
Even though it was for one person, there was plenty of meat and glass noodles.
The meat was so tender that it would fall apart along the grain with just a touch of the chopsticks.
The moderately sweet sauce was deeply absorbed into the meat, making it savory and full of flavor.
It's no exaggeration to say this is the editor's top pick for life-changing Galbijjim!
'Insa Dodam' of course had delicious main dishes, but the side dishes were amazing too!
It was so delicious, just like something grandma would make at home with her special touch!
Even with just side dishes, I think I could easily eat a bowl of rice.
'Insadodam' was especially appealing because you could enjoy neat and heartfelt dishes in a comfortable atmosphere with traditional Korean vibes.
If you want to taste authentic Korean food in Korea and experience the true flavors of Korean cuisine, I confidently recommend 'Insadodam'!
