Weather in October

Early October (October 1–15, 2025 — estimate)

Highs:
Expect daytime highs mostly in the 19 °C to 22 °C range (≈ 66–72 °F). Some days may climb a little higher (23 °C), especially earlier in the period, if the sun is strong and skies are clear.

Lows:
Night and early-morning lows will tend to be 7 °C to 12 °C (≈ 45–54 °F). On clear nights, it might dip a bit lower in some places.

Example estimates (fictional days for illustration):

  • Oct 3: High ~ 21 °C, Low ~ 10 °C

  • Oct 7: High ~ 20 °C, Low ~ 8 °C

  • Oct 12: High ~ 19 °C, Low ~ 9 °C

Conditions:

  • Skies tend toward being clearer and drier than September.

  • Rain becomes less frequent; you might see light showers or a weak frontal passage now and then.

  • Humidity drops — the “sticky summer” feeling is mostly gone.

  • Mornings may be chilly or crisp, with a noticeable coolness in the air.

Late October (Estimated)

Highs:
You’ll see a gradual further cooling. Highs will more often fall into 16 °C to 19 °C (≈ 61–66 °F). Some warmer buffer days may still edge into low 20s but less frequently.

Lows:
Lows will tend toward 4 °C to 9 °C (≈ 39–48 °F). Frost risk in some pockets (especially in valleys or suburban/rural areas) becomes more plausible later in the month.

Conditions:

  • The weather becomes more autumnal: crisp days, crisp nights.

  • Rainfall is lighter and more sporadic.

  • Skies are relatively clear — more blue-sky days compared to late summer.

  • The air feels drier, and the chance of fog in river valleys or low-lying areas increases on calm nights/mornings.

So how should you dress during October in South Korea? Everyone experiences weather differently, but if you're not used to colder temperatures, wear long sleeves, a jacket or sweater, and long pants that aren't too thin. If you're used to the cold, you should be fine with a thin long sleeve or even short sleeves, and pants with a cardigan.

It's not cold enough to wear thick clothes, but because everyone experiences temperatures differently, it's best to dress in layers so you can adjust accordingly, especially between day and night!

If you come to Korea during this time, you'll see some really fashionable fall styles, since people can experiment with layers and various color schemes.

In major shopping districts or clothing stores in South Korea, you will see a lot of autumn and winter clothing. It is definitely a great time to shop for some cute autumn outfits!

Chuseok Holiday: Things you need to know about traveling during Chuseok

Traditional Korean Chuseok gift wrapping and colorful Korean rice cakes presented on a plate, representing Chuseok holiday traditions.

2025 Chuseok dates: Oct. 5, 6 (Chuseok Day), 7

As Chuseok approaches, it's important to be aware of a few things if you're in Korea during this major holiday. Chuseok, often referred to as the Korean Thanksgiving, is a time when many Koreans travel to their hometowns to spend time with family. Because of this, you might find that some shops and restaurants, particularly smaller or family-run establishments, are closed during the holiday.

While more places in Seoul are beginning to stay open even during Chuseok, it's still a good idea to check the operating hours on Naver or Instagram before heading out, just to be sure. Additionally, if you’re considering traveling outside of Seoul, it’s wise to rethink your plans. Trains and buses are usually fully booked well in advance, and the roads tend to be heavily congested as people travel to and from their hometowns.

To avoid the hassle, consider staying in Seoul or planning your travel before or after the holiday period. This way, you can enjoy the festive atmosphere without the stress of navigating the holiday rush.
