Our Visit
Today, I visited Namsan Sirloin in Myeongdong. The restaurant focuses solely on Korean sirloin, letting you fully enjoy the true flavor of the meat. It’s just a 100-meter walk from Myeongdong Station and sits right in the heart of Seoul’s top tourist spots, near the Namsan Cable Car, Myeongdong Cathedral, Lotte Department Store, and Shinsegae Duty-Free. You can even walk to N Seoul Tower afterward, making it a perfect spot for a meal and a stroll.
Namsan Sirloin spans three floors, offering plenty of space, which makes it great for families or group tours. They also have staff who speak multiple languages, so visiting is easy and comfortable for everyone.
Namsan Sirloin is run by an owner-chef with 20 years of experience, who has worked at the Chosun Hotel, traditional Korean restaurants, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and even led Korean cuisine overseas—earning the nickname “the diplomat of Korean food.” The restaurant is known for its high quality and taste, recognized as a model restaurant and awarded by the Foreign Minister. Thanks to this reputation, it’s a favorite among notable figures, including SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu, former ministers and vice ministers of the Foreign Affairs, and the U.S. Ambassador to Korea, making the meal all the more exciting from the start.
After placing our order, a variety of side dishes and a hearty seonji hangover soup arrived first. Namsan Sirloin doesn’t just focus on the meat—each side dish is carefully prepared and beautifully presented. From cubed radish kimchi, quail egg soy-marinated dishes, and sweet pumpkin to refreshing white kimchi, spicy wasabi, and fragrant green onion salad, every item paired perfectly with the beef. The seonji soup stood out, rich with beef blood and plenty of ingredients, looking and tasting just like a dish from a specialty hangover soup restaurant.
Soon, the full spread was laid out, and just seeing the generous table made me feel completely satisfied. The portions were so abundant and carefully prepared that the saying “the table could break from the weight” felt spot on!
I ordered the steamed egg, and it looked soft and fluffy at first glance. One bite revealed a warm, rich, and comforting flavor that filled my mouth instantly.
Next came the grilled cheese. Golden and stretchy, it already looked irresistible before taking a bite. Its rich, savory flavor is sure to please everyone, and paired with the beef, it would be even more delicious.
We also tried highballs that pair well with the beef. I chose the pear highball and the bokbunja (Korean raspberry) highball. The bokbunja highball was sweet, tart, and rich—perfect with the flavorful beef. The pear highball was sweet and soft, almost like a soda, making it easy to enjoy even if you don’t usually drink.
The highlight of the day—the beef—was truly amazing! At Namsan Sirloin, the chef carefully selects only A++ Korean beef, serving perfectly aged sirloin with rich marbling and juicy texture. Just looking at it, you could see how tender and moist it was. The long aging process really sets it apart from regular beef. That day, we enjoyed sirloin, shrimp cut, chuck flap, and brisket, letting us experience all the top sirloin cuts in a single order.
The raw beef tartare served with the meat caught my eye from the plating alone. With a presentation that felt like a high-end Korean beef omakase, the hand-pressed tartare was generous in portion, letting us enjoy it freely.
One of Namsan Sirloin’s biggest perks is that the staff grills the meat for you. They cook it to match your pace and preference, so you can enjoy it at the perfect moment. Before grilling, they check the temperature of the cast-iron pan, showing their attention to detail. The oil they use isn’t regular cooking oil—it’s extracted from near the cow’s kidney, a cut with rich flavor that enhances the beef’s natural taste. Plus, it’s unsaturated fat, so it doesn’t build up in your arteries.
The chef started by grilling the chuck flap. With its even marbling, this cut melts in your mouth with a rich, buttery flavor, and the chef’s skilled hands made it easy to just sit back and enjoy.
For the first bite, I tried the chef’s suggestion and dipped the beef lightly in salt. The salt isn’t ordinary—it’s aged since 2008, with a rich flavor that deepens the taste of the meat even in small amounts. The combination of savory Korean beef and the salt was classic and perfect. Next, I tried it with wasabi. Namsan Sirloin uses high-purity wasabi, so just a small amount is enough. The wasabi paired beautifully with the beef, giving a clean and refreshing taste.
Next, the chef grilled the beef cut. This rare part comes in very small amounts from a single cow and is prized for its chewy yet tender texture. It’s a must-try for any beef lover!
After finishing the beef cut, the chef warmed the grilled cheese again on the pan. It was great to see that even the side dishes stay warm and tasty until the very end.
This time, I tried the perfectly grilled beef cut with the cheese. The rich flavors blended perfectly, creating a deep, satisfying taste. Adding the green onion salad on the side gave a clean finish while enhancing the beef’s natural flavor.
The third cut the chef grilled was brisket. Thin and fatty, it cooks quickly, making it easy to enjoy, and its rich, savory flavor really highlights the taste of the beef.
Lately in Korea, wrapping raw beef tartare in brisket has become a trend, and I got to try it myself. The combination of warm brisket with cold tartare was surprisingly harmonious. The meat melted in my mouth, and the tartare’s seasoning paired perfectly with the brisket. I highly recommend trying this combo!
Finally, the chef grilled the sirloin. Located along the cow’s back, sirloin is a premium cut known for its tender texture and rich flavor, making it one of the most popular choices.
This time, I paired the beef with young radish noodles. Namsan Sirloin’s version impressed me with its refreshing broth and crunchy young radish kimchi. It cleansed the rich taste of the meat perfectly, and the kimchi was so delicious that I couldn’t stop thinking about it even after I got home.
The final highlight at a Korean BBQ is always the fried rice. At Namsan Sirloin, they serve it with diced radish kimchi. The crunchy, savory kimchi combined with cheese and seaweed on top made the perfect finish—so satisfying it felt like another main dish. For dessert, they offered ice cream to cleanse the palate, rounding off the meal perfectly.
From the juicy sirloin to the flavorful side dishes and fried rice, every dish was exceptional. Namsan Sirloin isn’t just a restaurant—it turns a meal into a special Korean beef experience. I highly recommend it for food lovers and anyone looking for a memorable, premium meal in Seoul.
